Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dr. Erika Koss lives in Nairobi, Kenya, where she is the founder of A World in Your Cup Consulting and a Research Associate in the Department of International Development at the University of Nairobi. She is a writer and scholar who is passionate about equity in the global coffee industry from farm to cup.

Dr. Erika is an SCA Authorized Coffee Trainer in Sensory Skills, Brewing, and CVA, and one of creator of the original SCA Coffee Sustainability curriculum. She earned her Ph.D. from Saint Mary’s University in Nova Scotia, Canada, which focused on Kenya’s coffee history and ongoing gendered gaps. She is a researcher and writer for several companies, and has served as a national barista judge for Kenya, Canada, and co-head judge for the African Fine Coffee Association.
